Background
The aircrafts of the future have to be more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly in order for the customers to even consider them. This puts the aircraft designers in a challenging seat reviewing all aspects of the upcoming aircraft models. There are many components in a modern aircraft that require heating, one being the water and waste piping system. A new commercial aircraft has more than 1000 metres of water and waste pipes running through its structure.
Objective
It is of upmost importance that the pipes do not freeze during flight. Furthermore, it is also essential that the heating system in this application does not, by any means overheat and that they meet all other aircraft requirements. Safety is always put first in the aviation industry.
